As I’ve mentioned before, and has been reiterated by many others in social media marketing, small business owners looking to utilize social media marketing need to go where their customers are and research what those customers are interested in and what they want. By the looks of my feeds on the top platforms I use, (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest) many of my connections are seeking inspiration and motivation in their lives.
Perhaps we’re feeling anxious over the government shutdown. We’re nervous about the economy. Cold and flu season is upon us and we fear feeling awful and missing work and school. The holidays are coming, bringing with them gift giving and relationship angst. We feel rushed and out of sync since the Christmas decorations are across the shopping aisles from the Halloween costumes in many stores right now.
Many of us turn to our fun social media sites to complain about these situations, or poke fun at the surrealism of it all. But, where do you go and who do you talk with when you need an emotional boost dealing with your business?
I talked last week about communication being an extremely important component of your social media strategy. Branching off from that point, not all discussions have to be brainstorming paloozas for implementation strategies. Sometimes, you just need to get something off your chest. Sometimes, you just need to vent to someone who is not as emotionally invested in your business, employees, and customers as you are.
Often times, I am a sounding board and I’m perfectly OK with that.
My job is to offer counsel on the best online tools and applications suited to promoting your business on social media platforms. Along the way, I play Devil’s Advocate and make you think about all the little things that could go wrong, could be misinterpreted, or miscommunicated. I don’t play that role to shoot down all your ideas. It’s to get you to look at a situation from all angles to avoid as many potential problems as possible. Risk management, if you will.
The flip side of that role is The Cheerleader. We all need a little cheerleader in our lives. We all get a little downtrodden, exhausted, and disenchanted at times. But, as an SMM consultant, it’s also a part of my job not to let you wallow too long. Let’s get it out and let’s get a move on. You have many wonderful things to accomplish this week.
With that in mind, take a deep breath with me.
Now exhale.
You are much stronger than your worries. Worry only paralyzes you from seizing opportunities today & does nothing to promote or support you tomorrow. While it’s normal to feel down once in a while, actively and consistently choose to be happy and seek the positives in every day. And finally, from one of my favorite authors, Mark Twain:
“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.”
Be Well. Be Present. Be Social.
